Teacher of English

Job Introduction

Teacher of English (full time or part time considered, permanent)

Main Pay Scale/Upper pay Scale

Required from Easter or September 2026

The Mountbatten School English Faculty is a dynamic, creative and welcoming team, united by a shared passion for language, literature and learning. We are committed to helping every student become a confident communicator, a critical thinker and a curious reader who enjoys the richness of the written and spoken word.

Our department delivers English and Media Studies through a well-sequenced three-year KS3 curriculum and a two-year GCSE programme, currently following AQA English Language and AQA English Literature. Our OCR Media Studies GCSE is an extremely popular option. Many colleagues teach both English and Media to GCSE and collaboration, professional dialogue and supportive mentoring sit at the heart of our work.

Our students are genuinely a joy to teach: enthusiastic, thoughtful and eager to learn. The Faculty is well resourced with a vibrant library, specialist teaching rooms and bookable class sets of Chromebooks and devices. Teachers work closely to design inclusive schemes of learning, share resources and continually refine practice to secure strong progress for all students, regardless of starting point.

We are seeking an enthusiastic, committed and inspirational teacher to join our team from the new academic year. The post would suit an Early Career Teacher ready to begin their journey in a nurturing environment, or an experienced practitioner seeking development and fresh challenge. A part-time appointment will be considered for the right candidate.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver high-quality English teaching across KS3 and KS4.
  • Prepare students for AQA English Language and English Literature GCSE exams.
  • Create engaging lessons that develop reading, writing, speaking and listening skills.
  • Contribute to the planning and refinement of collaborative schemes of work.
  • Assess work regularly and provide meaningful feedback to support progress.
  • Inspire a love of reading, personal expression and independent thought.
  • Build strong, respectful relationships with pupils and families.
  • Contribute to the wider life of the department through enrichment opportunities including trips, competitions and events.
  • Uphold high expectations of behaviour, effort and achievement.

We look forward to welcoming a teacher who will thrive in a positive, ambitious and student-centred department.
