Who are we:
Samuel Cody School is a school for children with Moderate Learning Difficulties and associated needs. Our new Unit, Cody Oaks is a state of the art purpose built provision for children with SEMH needs and challenging behaviour. Cody Oaks opened in September 2022 to 45 students, we are at full capacity with 90 students accessing provision. Cody Oaks prides itself on the continuous development of its therapeutic approach towards behaviour, identifying a common philosophy and approach to behaviour will be a key part of a recruitment process.
This is a unique opportunity to work in a specialist environment with outstanding resources including therapy rooms, music, art, technology and gym and sports facilities. Visits to the site are encouraged.
The aims of the post of Maths & Numeracy Lead:
- To model and promote the development of Numeracy area across all subjects.
- To set high expectations and model best practice within teaching of own tutor groups and classes
- Implement, monitor and sustain a whole provision (Cody Oaks) calculations policy to achieve consistency in implementation with all staff
- Ensure that all staff understand numeracy is part of the learning across all curriculum areas
- Foster high achievement and excellence within Numeracy and ensuring that students are encouraged and supported
- Implement and monitor the consistent assessment and progress of numeracy skills across the school and implement intervention where necessary to support progress.
- Support the professional and personal development of staff regarding subject knowledge across the Curriculum
- To work alongside other Numeracy leads within Samuel Cody to review strategy and make sure it is consistent in its application across provisions.
Staff Responsibilities in relation to staff are to:
- Monitor the content of the curriculum and strategy to ensure that it meets statutory guidelines and conditions.
- Working with the alongside the Senior Leadership Team to ensure opportunities are provided for the professional development of staff, ensuring that they are up-to-date with developments in the subject area in order to improve the quality of learning and teaching
- Support Newly Qualified Teachers and Beginning Teachers within the Curriculum Area, in co-operation with Senior Leadership Team member(s) and other staff such as the Teaching & Learning Lead
- Establish clear procedures for consultation with staff in the Curriculum Area
- Lead Curriculum meetings to discuss/disseminate information to teaching and support staff where necessary
- Work alongside the Senior Leadership Team to moderate the teaching of these areas in line with the self-evaluation process
Responsibilities in relation to the Curriculum are to:
- Ensure that suitable strategy and resources are planned and prepared and take account of internal and external developments and requirements as well as school policies and aims so that the Curriculum is effectively delivered to students of all abilities
- Initiate Curriculum discussion and ensure that there is constant review of teaching approaches and subject content in relation to Numeracy, in line with the National Curriculum so that students can progress within school across all Key Stages
- Provide information, as necessary to SLT, parents, teachers and governors about the work of the Curriculum Area
- Responsible for monitoring the delivery of provision by teaching staff regarding curriculum content
- To promote parental engagement in the work of the curriculum area and provide a range of opportunities for parents to be involved in supporting their child’s learning
- To organise and encourage appropriate school trips/visits/fieldwork linked to the curriculum area

- Has experience and knowledge of curriculum implementation
- Can demonstrate leadership and management of staff to achieve appropriate outcomes for learners.
- A calm, inclusive, flexible, enthusiastic and creative approach towards learning
- A commitment to working with young people who exhibit challenging behaviours with associated trauma and attachment difficulties
- Excellent interpersonal skills, initiative and ability to demonstrate impact from strategies they have implemented
- Commitment to work with parents and other professionals
- An ability to role model consistent high levels of teaching which support development of both the academic and SEMH needs of the child
- To contribute to both planning and delivery of numeracy within KS2, KS3 and KS4
- An ability to create and lead initiatives to support student outcomes and comprehensively demonstrate impact
