Job/Person Summary

 

We are looking for a passionate/dedicated PE Teacher who can deliver outstanding lessons at both Key Stage 3 and 4 and get the best out of our pupils. Working in a close, friendly team, a sense of humour, compassion, and empathy, yet upholding the highest expectations of health and safety is desirable.

 

We think our department is the best in the school! We need another team member to make sure even more pupils can experience all the benefits Physical Education can offer not just in results, but by producing confident, motivated, resilient, curious learners.

 

This is an exciting time at The Hayling College and for the PE department, as we are working alongside Sport England and the local community to develop our facilities for sport to include a variety of all-weather pitches, boxing space, multi- gym and upgrade the existing changing rooms. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to develop with the team the sports provision at the school and to develop further opportunities for both our school and wider community through our school ethos of happy, healthy, and high performing.

 

The successful candidate will have high expectations of self and pupils, offer inspirational and innovative teaching to Key Stage 3 and 4 pupils and is committed to raising pupils’ achievement and progress. They will show a genuine passion for the subject and a real desire to help pupils make rapid progress through their engaging lessons and high expectations, based on positive and nurturing relationships with pupils.

A teacher of PE is a Hayling College team member and as such is responsible for:

  • Implementing policies and upholding the aims and ethos of the college

  • Setting high expectations which inspire, motivate and challenge students
  • Contributing to good discipline within the college

  • Make accurate and productive use of assessment and reporting relevant information to team leader
  • Ensuring safe working practice
  • Plan and teach well-structured lessons
  • Auditing materials and resources and making best use of equipment
  • Delivering, monitoring and evaluating tasks – meeting targets
  • Contributing, co-ordinating and co-operating as part of a team
  • Operating within all day to day procedures
  • Keeping abreast of latest development, informing team leader of need and taking training opportunities
  • Being supportive of extra-curricular activities
  • Carrying out such duties as may be reasonably allocated by the Head teacher or his representative within the purview of the post


Person Specification Qualifications and Professional Development

  • Qualified teacher status
  • Evidence of recent and relevant CPD
  • Relevant degree
  • Understanding of current trends in education both nationally and internationally
  • PGCE with Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)

Experience

  • Evidence of successful teaching experience in a secondary school or equivalent
  • Teaching across KS3 and KS4
  • Teaching across the ability range
  • Participation within school’s wide systems e.g. assessment, CPD
  • Contact with parents or carers
  • Evidence of student achievement
  • Experience of delivering extra-curricular activities

 

Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to become an ‘Outstanding’ classroom teacher (if not already)
  • Able to inspire, challenge and motivate students
  • Ability to track student data and develop effective interventions
  • Anticipate problems, develop creative solutions within the context of the classroom
  • Set and achieve ambitious, challenging goals and targets for self
  • Listen to and reflect on feedback from others
  • High level of oral, written and ICT skills
  • Excellent presentation skills (e.g. Speaking to large groups of pupils/parents/staff etc.)
  • Able to build and maintain positive relationships with individuals and groups
  • Prioritise, plan and organise
  • Awareness of student progress and intervention strategies
