Teaching Assistant

Job Introduction

Shirley Infant School is looking to appoint two teaching assistants. 

  • Class TA; maternity vacancy (up to 12 months from January 2025); Mon-Fri 22.5 hours per week; Year R 
  • 1:1 TA; fixed term 01/01/2025 - 31/08/2026; Mon-Fri 32.5 hours per week; Year 1

The successful candidates will work closely with the class teacher to provide support for pupils to engage in their learning in one-to-one situations as well as in groups. These roles also include a lunchtime duty to support the emotional and social needs of our children. We are looking for candidates with a strong commitment to supporting children’s learning who are excited to join a team of professionals who believe in shaping young minds and building a strong foundation for lifelong learning.

WE ARE SEEKING AN EXPERIENCED PROFESSIONAL INDIVIDUAL WHO HAS:  

  • An understanding of how children learn and play
  • High expectations of what children can achieve and how they should behave
  • Commitment to teamwork in a friendly school with a child-centred ethos
  • Resilience, enthusiasm, patience, flexibility and a caring manner
  • Experience in the classroom, with an outstanding ability to engage and enthuse children
  • Ability to follow daily planning and use initiative
  • An understanding of attachment and can demonstrate the fundamental principles
  • GCSE Grade 4 / C or above in English and Maths, and preferably a Level 2 or higher qualification in Childcare or other relevant area

Shirley Infant School is a three-form entry school that is part of Hamwic Education Trust (HET), a large, fast-paced Trust with currently 36 academies across the South Coast. Linked to 6 community-based partnerships, there are 33 primary academies, 2 secondary schools and 1 hospital school.
