Teaching Assistant

Job Introduction

Join Our Team as a Teaching Assistant - Inspire. Support. Empower.

Do you believe every young person deserves the chance to thrive?
Do you have the patience, empathy, and determination to help students overcome challenges and discover their potential?

If that sounds like you, The Hayling College would love to meet you.

About Us

We’re a small secondary school with a big heart and an even bigger vision. With around 545 students aged 11–16, our award-winning and inclusive community is built on the belief that every student matters.

Now, we’re looking for a dedicated Teaching Assistant to join our caring and committed team—someone who can make a real difference every single day.

 What You’ll Do

In this rewarding role, you’ll:

  • Support students—including those with a range of special educational needs—to succeed in class and beyond
  • Work closely with the SENDCo, teachers, and pastoral team to provide tailored support
  • Help students access the curriculum while building their confidence and independence
  • Offer in-class support, small-group interventions, and one-to-one guidance
  • Build trusting relationships that help students feel understood, valued, and safe
  • Use patience, empathy, and creativity to support emotional regulation and communication

What We’re Looking For

You don’t need to have all the answers—but you do need the right mindset. We’re looking for someone who:

  • Has experience working with young people (in education, SEN, pastoral, or a similar setting)
  • Understands that behaviour is communication and responds with empathy
  • Remains calm under pressure and listens without judgment
  • Can adapt flexibly to the needs of individuals and groups
  • Is committed to safeguarding and supporting the wellbeing of young people (full training provided)

Why You’ll Love Working Here

At The Hayling College, our staff are the heart of what we do. When you join us, you’ll benefit from:

  • A warm, inclusive school where teamwork and support are at the core
  • Ongoing training and professional development, including SEN-specific CPD
  • A skilled and friendly SEND and pastoral team to learn and grow alongside
  • Staff wellbeing initiatives, flexible working opportunities, a generous pension, and access to a staff benefits platform

Whether you’re taking your first steps into education or bringing your experience to a new setting, this is your chance to make a genuine impact on the lives of young people who need it most.

Safer Recruitment

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. We will ensure that all our recruitment and selection practices reflect this commitment. All successful candidates will be subject to Disclosure and Barring Service checks along with other relevant employment checks.
