Salary Scale: Grade C – point dependent on experience.
Hours: 33 hours - Term time only plus training days/twilight training and there is a need for individual study at home.
The post holder will be responsible to the Resource Provision Manager and the Headteacher of the school.
We are looking for an enthusiastic, conscientious, creative and experienced Part Time Learning Support Assistant to support the access and achievement of pupils with a Vision Impairment (VI) across our friendly and caring school.
Ideally, you should have had successful experience of working in either a primary, secondary or special school environment, within the classroom, in small groups and/or 1:1. A commitment to developing specialist knowledge and skills in supporting children with vision impairment is essential – including specialist software, technology and Braille.
Key responsibilities will include supporting a child with a Vision Impairment and any associated additional needs, ensuring equitable curriculum access, independence and playing a positive role in their pastoral and academic development.
If you are not Braille trained, the post will require you to pass a structured course which sets achievable goals and has an end date. Our existing experienced VI LSA will act as a mentor to the successful candidate. At the end of this particular course, there is a nationally recognised certificate. You will be well supported and in-school training will be provided.
The successful candidate will need to demonstrate empathy for children and an intuitive response to their needs, be able to work under direction from the class teacher, the Resource Provision Manager and SENDco as well as under their own initiative by being part of a caring, friendly and hard-working team.
