Salary Details:                      Grade D, Step 1 £21,408.12 (FTE 27,780)

Hours of work:                      32.5 hours per week (to include Wednesday after-school staff training),      40 weeks per year; 8.30 – 3.30 (including 30 minute lunch break)

Purpose of Job

To work with and support pupils, their families and staff with their Social, Emotional and Mental Health in times of need.  The Wellbeing Assistant will work closely with the Wellbeing Manager to co-ordinate a range of interventions for our pupils.

Key Tasks

  • To work with individuals and small groups of pupils to support them with conflict resolution, friendships issues, anger management, bereavement, stress, anxiety and emotional well-being
  • Be aware of self-help techniques such as mindfulness and how this can help pupils to manage stress
  • To liaise with parents, respond to their queries, provide them with advice and signpost/refer them to appropriate internal or external support 
  • To chair parent meetings and where applicable conduct home visits to support parents/carers
  • To utilise good knowledge of the local professional network and good understanding of other agency roles and responsibilities
  • To be a Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead
  • Be aware of updates/changes to KCSIE and other legislation

General

  • To support pupils with attendance difficulties alongside the Attendance Officer
  • To provide information to parents about special needs, including help groups etc on a “one stop” basis
  • To support transition and liaise with parents/schools whose children will be attending the school as part of the transition programme
  • To have a comprehensive knowledge/understanding of current and best practice for working with pupils with MLD and Neurodevelopmental needs
  • To make full use of CPOMS/SIMS and other electronic systems

Support for pupils

  • Build excellent working relationships with pupils which allow them to communicate their challenges and overcome them
  • To help pupils develop their self-awareness and self-confidence
  • To assess the SEMH needs of pupils and provide appropriate support to meet these needs
  • To be aware of all school policies and procedures, including those relating to confidentiality, Child Protection, Safeguarding, Behaviour and Anti-Bullying
  • To liaise with external agencies where pupils have additional support
  • To refer pupils/families to Early Help, CAMHS, MASH, Catch 22, No Limits, Simon Says, YCP, Motive8 or any other appropriate agency to support pupils with their well-being needs

Key Responsibilities

Daily/Weekly

  • Monitor CPOMs for safeguarding concerns and take action accordingly, e.g. referral to Children’s Services, as directed by the Wellbeing Manager
  • Develop systems and written records to ensure a robust safeguarding system is in place 
  • Monitor the records/logs of pupils’ wellbeing sessions
  • Attend professionals’ meetings e.g. Child Protection, CIN, EHH where appropriate
  • Co-ordinate support sessions e.g. parent coffee mornings

Supporting the School

At an appropriate level, according to the job role, grade and training received, all employees in the school are expected to:

  1. Support the aims, values, mission and ethos of the school and participate in a team approach to all aspects of school life.
  2. Attend and contribute to staff meetings and INSET days as required and identify areas of personal practice and experience to develop.
  3. Take appropriate responsibility for safeguarding and children’s welfare and be aware of reporting issues linked to home/child/teacher/school.
  4. Be aware of health and safety issues and act in accordance with the school’s Health and Safety Policy.
  5. This role will require complete confidentiality regarding school-related matters

Other Duties

The postholder may be expected to carry out duties other than those given in the job description where the level of responsibility is similar and he/she has appropriate qualifications or receives appropriate training to carry out these duties.
