Job/Person Summary

We are looking to appoint a positive, flexible and professional 1:1 Support Assistant to join our established and dedicated team for September 2025.

The role will involve 1:1 support for a child with complex developmental SEND needs in a Year 1/2 classroom setting.  It would be an advantage if the successful candidate has previous SEND support experience although relevant training and support will be given.

 We are looking for someone who:

  • has a good understanding of child development and experience of supporting young children in a school or pre-school setting (essential)
  • relates well to both children and adults and has excellent interpersonal skills
  • knowledge of alternative communication strategies such as PECS and Makaton
  • is able to demonstrate an ability to nurture children in accordance with their individual emotional, social and learning needs
  • is caring, calm and patient
  • demonstrates excellent behaviour management skill
  • is able to work effectively with children either individually and in small groups to enable them to achieve their best
  • enjoys working independently, with initiative and flexibility
  • is proactive and resourceful
  • is highly organised and has good time management skills
  • is able to work as a part of a team, learning with and from other colleagues
  • demonstrates good English and Mathematics skills
  • is able to provide written and verbal feedback to the class teacher as required
  • understands confidentiality and safeguarding procedures
  • has a good sense of humour!
