Nursling C of E Primary School - 1:1 Special Needs Assistant

Nursling C of E Primary is a small, one-form entry school that is situated on the edge of Southampton and the Test Valley.

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced 1:1 Teaching Assistant to provide dedicated support to a Year 2 pupil as their key adult. Alternatively, we will be interested in splitting the role into two and have one Teaching Assistant support in the morning, and the other Teaching Assistant support in the afternoon creating a team around the child.  Please make clear in your application if you would like to apply on this basis.

The successful candidate/s will work closely with the pupil, supporting their needs as identified on the EHCP and facilitating their development into a confident and increasingly independent learner.

Our last Ofsted inspection was in March 2025

  • Pupils are happy and feel safe.
  • Relationships between staff and pupils are warm and respectful.
  • Pupils know the school rules and the high expectations adults have of them.
  • Pupils are polite and respectful to adults and peers.
  • The school is highly ambitious for every pupil. Pupils achieve well.
  • Pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) flourish academically, socially and emotionally.

The role involves collaborating with teachers, the SENCO, and external professionals to ensure the pupil receives tailored support. The ideal candidate will be patient, proactive, and confident in adapting strategies to meet the student’s daily needs. This is a unique opportunity to make a real difference to a young person’s learning and development in a supportive and nurturing school environment.

This is a temporary position providing support to a specific child whilst that child is on the school roll.

To apply for this position, please download an application form available from Vacancies | Nursling Primary School and return to the school office by emailing Lindsay Manning l.manning@nursling.hants.sch.uk before the application deadline or in hard copy. Please note that the school cannot accept applications submitted on other forms and applications made by CV will be rejected.
