1:1 Special Needs Learning Support Assistant

Job Introduction

Manor Infant School is looking for a friendly, flexible and professional individual to work daily supporting a year R child with special needs during the school day and in the lunch hour.

This will be on a temporary contract for the time the pupil remains at Manor Infant School.

As a Special Needs Assistant, you will be expected to build a successful, positive relationship with the pupil within a secure, challenging and stimulating learning environment. You will need to be able to work flexibly, showing initiative when necessary. You will be required to work with a named child as well as (on occasions) small groups of children to focus on their specific areas of learning to meet their needs.

The successful candidate will:

  • Have a good level of written and spoken English and maths
  • Have experience of working with children with social, emotional and mental health needs (SEMH), specifically Autistic Spectrum Condition (ASC)
  • Be committed to the value and ethos of the school
  • Have the ability to undertake tasks under direction and show initiative when necessary
  • Maintain confidentiality in and outside of the workplace
  • Be able to relate in a friendly but firm way with a range of personalities
  • Be able to motivate children and assist with organising the learning environment
  • Have excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Be enthusiastic, hardworking and patient

  • Currently qualified in first aid or willing to undergo training

Attendance at regular meetings and training sessions are an essential aspect of the role.

References will be collected on selection for interview and employment checks completed, including a DBS if successful.
