Administrative Assistant Person Specification

EHCC Grade B/C dependent on experience

We are looking for an efficient and friendly Admin Assistant to support our busy office team for 5 days a week, 40 weeks per year. This is initially offered on a fixed term contract until 31st August 2027, with potential for it to be extended for the right candidate.

The role is to cover 8-4pm 5 days a week. The salary offered is Grade B/C  (£24,796 - £26244 fte actual salary pro-rata) and is dependent on experience.

The successful candidate will:

  • Enjoy working with children in a primary school environment and understand that the children are central to all decision making

  • Be committed to safeguarding and protecting children

  • Be the face of the school, welcoming visitors in a friendly and helpful manner

  • Have experience of working in an office or reception setting

  • Be an excellent communicator - confident with direct interaction with all visitors to the school, recognising the role as the face of the school, and the importance of effective and reliable communication even when under pressure

  • Be able to manage telephone queries efficiently and effectively

  • Demonstrate initiative and be proactive in ensuring that matters arising from visitors or from within the school are dealt with promptly and prioritised effectively

  • Be flexible and adaptable, able to do the job well when under pressure or facing a time constraint

  • Have particular expertise and experience of school records administration

  • Be proficient in the use of IT to fulfil the requirements of the role

  • Have in depth experience of using a pupil management information system, preferably Arbor although training can be given to the right candidate

  • Be able to manage, prioritise and meet deadlines and be able to multitask

  • Be able to work effectively as a team member, under direction and also independently

  • Be approachable, confident, respectful and credible

  • Be supportive to the school team and all stakeholders, committed to working collaboratively

  • Be intuitive, caring and maintain high regard for confidentiality at all times

  • Be willing to undertake a wide range of professional development

  • Have a passion for ensuring the wellbeing of children and staff and with training, administer first aid and medicines

  • Be able to carry out a key role in emergency procedures efficiently and calmly

  • Have lots of energy, excellent multi-tasking skills and a good sense of humour

  • Have achieved a C grade or above in English and Maths GCSE or equivalent
