We are seeking a committed and experienced leader to join our established but welcoming leadership team as Assistant Headteacher (Raising Standards Leader), working across King’s Academy Gomer and King’s Academy Rowner.

This exciting vacancy has arisen following the promotion of our current Assistant Headteacher / Raising Standards Leader to a senior leadership role in another school, which is a reflection of the strength, ambition, and professional growth that KGA encourages across its staff.

The Core Purpose of the Role

The Raising Standards Leader exists to ensure that all pupils make the very best possible progress.

Working closely with the Executive Headteacher, Associate Headteachers and Curriculum Leader, you will play a central role in securing strong academic outcomes, with a clear ambition for attainment and progress to be at least in line with, and increasingly above, national averages. This includes a relentless focus on equity and inclusion, ensuring that pupils with SEND, those who are disadvantaged, and those at risk of underachievement are supported to achieve as well as their peers.

This role is rooted in a PiXL-informed approach to school improvement: using sharp diagnosis, intelligent intervention and consistently strong teaching to ensure no pupil is left behind and no potential is capped. The Raising Standards Leader will ensure that systems translate into classroom impact and measurable gains for all groups of pupils.

Our Approach to Raising Standards
We use PiXL as part of a wider, evidence-informed approach to school improvement. Our focus is on:
• knowing pupils and cohorts exceptionally well
• identifying barriers early through sharp assessment
• securing strong teaching as the first response
• using targeted intervention where it adds value
• ensuring all pupils, including those with SEND and disadvantage, achieve highly

Key Responsibilities
As Assistant Headteacher (Raising Standards Leader), you will:
• Work with SLT to raise attainment and progress for all pupils, including those with SEND and our most disadvantaged learners
• Lead a PiXL-informed approach to raising standards, ensuring diagnostic assessment, QLA and gap analysis lead to timely, targeted action
• Ensure high-quality teaching is consistently in place, with adaptive practice meeting the needs of every learner
• Lead and refine assessment systems, ensuring consistency, accuracy and meaningful impact on classroom practice
• Use formative and summative data to identify trends, barriers and priorities, and evaluate the impact of actions taken
• Work closely with the Curriculum Leader to ensure curriculum implementation leads to strong outcomes for all groups
• Champion excellent attendance, recognising its critical role in achievement, particularly for vulnerable pupils
• Support staff to use PiXL resources intelligently to strengthen teaching, address misconceptions and close gaps
• Maintain a clear overview of key cohorts and individuals, ensuring no pupil becomes invisible within the system

We are looking for a leader who:
• Has a strong understanding of KS2 standards, assessment and accountability
• Can demonstrate measurable impact on pupil outcomes, including for pupils with SEND and those who are disadvantaged
• Understands how excellent teaching, curriculum design, assessment and attendance combine to raise standards
• Is confident using data to inform decisions, prioritise action and hold self and others to account
• Believes that every child can succeed, regardless of starting point or need
• Has a secure and credible craft of teaching, modelling best practice in inclusive classrooms and ability to manage leadership with some classroom teaching
• Leads with clarity, warmth and high expectations, aligned to our values of Honesty, Faith and Courage

Raising Standards Expertise
The successful candidate will understand how structured systems such as PiXL can be used to sharpen teaching, strengthen assessment and secure improved outcomes. They will be confident in moving beyond compliance to ensure that strategies result in real, sustained gains for pupils, particularly those at risk of underachievement.

Applicants from Outside KS2 or Primary
We welcome applications from leaders currently working outside KS1/KS2 (including secondary), provided you can clearly demonstrate:
• how your experience is transferable to raising standards in a KS2 context
• how you would adapt your leadership and teaching expertise to a junior school setting
• how you support inclusive practice and adaptive teaching
• how you would ensure strong outcomes for pupils with SEND and disadvantage
• a secure understanding of primary curriculum, assessment and accountability
