Caretaker and Bus driver

Job Introduction

  • Are you good at DIY and general upkeep?
  • A stickler for a good job well done?
  • Are you able to work on your own initiative but still be part of a team?
  • Understand that H&S in a school needs careful management (and you have the diligence and care to see this through)?

If so, this could be the job for you!  It could even be a second job for the right candidate as the hours involve opening up in the morning – our cleaning is done by a contractor on the evening.

Our school is on a beautiful site that is well used by the whole school community.  We need a great caretaker to help us take care of it; someone who takes a pride in their work and is practical and hands on.

You will oversee the Health and Safety management of the site in conjunction with the Headteacher and there is full training provided so that you can confidently work within school and Hampshire systems.

There is a good degree of autonomy with this role and our current caretaker works with our office and leadership staff to decide on priorities for the future and prioritise projects both small and large. This role is hugely valued by the whole school community and you definitely have the opportunity to make it your own.

You might be looking for a change of career, opportunity to move into something practical, wanting a second job, find something to keep you busy in retirement or be starting out in a career – we’d be interested to hear from anyone who would love to work with our team!

This role incorporates driving our minibus on a morning as we take a small trips around the local villages to collect children who cannot safely walk to school.  The bus driving element requires the successful applicant to have a D1 element on their licence or be prepared to take a DVLA test (after relevant training) to secure this D1 qualification.  If you passed your test before Jan 1997, you have this ‘grandparent’ right automatically.

Application procedure

Visits to the school are warmly welcomed.  If you would an informal chat about any aspect of this post please do not hesitate to contact Mrs Emma Jefferies, Headteacher at the School. Contact can be made through Mrs Debbie Spayes, the School’s admin officer.
