Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) - from September 2026

Role purpose and impact
We are seeking an experienced, qualified HLTA to strengthen classroom practice and accelerate pupils’ progress. You will plan and deliver curriculum-aligned lessons, cover whole-class teaching, and lead/support other adults to ensure consistent, inclusive practice that raises attainment in reading, writing and maths and embeds our enquiry-based curriculum and ACT values.
Key responsibilities
- Plan, prepare and deliver engaging, well-sequenced learning activities across the primary curriculum, including whole-class teaching under the direction of class teachers and senior leaders.
- Contribute to curriculum planning by using yourexpertiseto sequence learning, build vocabulary and makecross‑curricularlinks in line with our enquiry approach.
- Supervise and direct other support staff (LSAs) during lessons and interventions to secure consistent practice and maximise impact.
- Cover classes when teachers are absent or for planned release time,maintaininghigh standardsof behaviour for learning.
- Use and record assessment information tomonitorpupil progress, produce intervention notes and feed back to teachers,SENCOand leaders.
- Promote inclusion and independence by adapting activities so all children canparticipateand make progress.
- Model and reinforce the ACT values;establishroutines that support positive behaviour and wellbeing.
- Actively contribute to school improvement priorities (curriculum development, inclusion, coaching) andparticipatein CPD.
- Follow and promote statutory safeguarding requirements and the school’s child protection procedures.
Essential: person specification
- HLTA status (essential).
- Level 2 (or equivalent) qualifications in English and mathematics.
- Proven experience planning and delivering learning across the primary curriculum, including whole-class teaching and targeted interventions.
- Strong understanding of how to support children with SEND and EAL so they access the curriculum and make measurable progress.
- Confident use of assessment to adapt teaching anddemonstrateimpact.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with children, parents/carersand colleagues; commitment to the school’s values.
- Commitment to safeguarding and child wellbeing.
Desirable
- Experience working with enquiry-based/project curricula and using outdoor learning.

About the Role (Key Details)
- Hours: 30 hours per week. 8:30-3:30pm, Monday - Friday, Term Time Only (with 1 hour unpaid lunch break)
- Contract Type: Fixed Term - 1 September 2026 to 31st August 2027
- Salary: EHCC Grade D, starting at £27,780 full-time equivalent (actual pay is pro-rated for term time only) Higher grade considered for experienced candidates
