Job Introduction
This is a fantastic opportunity to join our friendly school as our Caretaker. We are looking for a dedicated, reliable, enthusiastic person who is committed to keeping children and staff safe and who will be as passionate as us about the presentation of our school. Safeguarding staff and children will be a key feature of the role.
The role will be starting in September 2026. This role is 25 hours a week and 52 weeks a year. It will be a permanent contract. We are flexible on when these hours are carried out (i.e could be one shift, or split shifts; however, would prefer for the shift to end at 6.00pm. This would ensure site security and cross over with the cleaning staff at the end of the day.
The role will be paid on a Grade C:(Full Time Equivalent between £25,186 and £26,244; actual salary between £17,018 and £17,732).
The role will include maintaining clean, safe premises including the school building and grounds. This will entail preventative maintenance and repair work, promoting health and safety (e.g as Fire Safety Officer), undertake statutory checks (e.g. legionella testing, fire alarm testing), COSHH responsibility, liaising with the contract cleaners, and cleaning as required. The Caretaker will also be the main key holder with responsibility for school security.
The successful candidate will:
- be skilled in routine building maintenance – have basic DIY skills including plumbing, painting and carpentry
- have some experience, or knowledge, of Health and Safety in the workplace and writing risk assessments.
- be able to liaise with the contract cleaners
- be flexible, able to prioritise workload and to work under own initiative
- be able to use IT to support the role e.g. emails, Microsoft word, spreadsheets
- be organised and diligent ensuring statutory checks are completed on time and accurately.
Applicants must have the ability to communicate effectively with all members of the school community, both verbally and in writing (e.g. emails).
Experience of working in a school is desirable but not essential. Full training will be provided for the right candidate.
