Bidbury Infant School is seeking a proactive and reliable Caretaker to join our dedicated team. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with a positive attitude, strong integrity, and excellent timekeeping skills to play a vital role in maintaining a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for our pupils and staff.

Job Description: Caretaker

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs across the school site.
  • Move goods and school equipment as required.
  • Monitor and manage stock levels of cleaning supplies and PPE.
  • Maintain both paper and digital record-keeping systems.
  • Supervise contractors on-site, ensuring compliance with Health and Safety regulations.
  • Provide cleaning cover during staff absences.
  • Lock and unlock the school premises, including managing the intruder alarm system.
  • Conduct regular Health and Safety checks.
  • Apply HCC and school-specific Health and Safety policies in daily tasks.
  • Carry out manual handling duties and follow COSHH regulations.
  • Ensure the school grounds are tidy and safe, including managing bins, pathways, and reporting external damage.

 

Person Specification:

  • A proactive and positive approach to work.
  • Full driving licence (preferred).
  • Practical/maintenance work experience (desirable).
  • Basic understanding of Health and Safety requirements.
  • Physically capable of lifting and manual handling.
  • Basic IT skills (advantageous).
  • Previous experience as a school caretaker is not essential – full training will be provided.
