Casual Learning Support Assistants - Wootey Infant School

Job Introduction

Wootey is a small Infant School situated on the edge of the market town of Alton. Our children are brilliant, enthusiastic, lively and keen to embrace new learning opportunities. Staff and children enjoy beautiful grounds, a happy working atmosphere and tremendous support and appreciation from Parents, Governors and each other. Teachers, Governors, Learning Support Assistants and other Support Staff fully embrace our Core Values of Happiness, Respect and Creativity, to ensure that staff and pupils experience a wonderful learning environment.

We are looking to appoint energetic, creative and highly motivated people who have recent experience of supporting children in an Early Years setting or school, to join our highly effective team. This role will include supporting the class, groups and individual children, including supporting children with complex social, emotional and learning needs.

The successful candidates needs to have initiative and enthusiasm and to be able to form excellent relationships with children, staff and parents. We will offer training and support as required and close links with a variety of Professional Services as well as the child’s parents will be integral to the role. Support with the child’s personal care is required, as is a love of working inside and outside whatever the weather!

  • passionate about every child’s learning and progress 
  • able to support children’s learning in both the classroom and outside through modelling, initiating discussion and skillful questioning
  • able to sensitively support the child by assisting with his personal care, physio, speech and language and other relevant therapies
  • able to work collaboratively with colleagues, using strong communication skills and record keeping to support our wonderful pupils in all aspects of their learning, social development, personal and independent needs 
  • positive and cheerful with a 'can do' attitude 
  • able to work both inside and out, no matter what the weather!

Do you:

  • enjoy playing and interacting with young children 
  • promote high expectations of behaviour whilst taking time to unpick what a child is communicating and considering how to support them to learn how to respond appropriately
  • understand the importance of play in a child's learning and development 
  • love creating exciting learning opportunities
  • have excellent basic skills in English & Maths (GCSE grade C or above or equivalent is desirable)

Ideally, relevant childcare/teaching assistant qualifications are desirable; however, candidates without such qualifications are welcome to apply.
