Job Introduction
School Chef
This role is for 30 hours per week, 40 weeks per year (term time, plus one week) to be worked from 8am to 2pm.
Grade C (£26,018 to £27,111 FTE)
Job Purpose:
To lead in the cooking and serving of nutritious food to our children and staff and provide an efficient and high-quality service. To have overall responsibility for the day to day running of the kitchen, including compliance and health and safety and management of the staff team.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Comply with all aspects of the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, the Food Safety Act 2006, the Food Safety and Hygiene regulations 2013 and all other relevant legislation.
- Daily provision of catering services, including day to day preparation and cooking of food
- Lead the kitchen staff team, ensuring the kitchen is being run efficiently and safely, and duties are delegated appropriately
- Managing any staff concerns, and escalating where appropriate
- Providing induction and training to kitchen staff team as necessary
- Encourage healthy food choices, actively promoting the service to attract maximum numbers
- Reporting any building or equipment issues promptly
- Providing catering outside of school lunches when required
- Complete stock taking, and documentation
- Ensuring high hygiene standards are maintained
- Ordering food and materials, ensuring they are received and stored appropriately and safely
- Preparation and planning of menus within budgetary and nutritional standard parameters
- Provision of special dietary requirements and awareness of its importance.

° Good IT skills to enable the production of menus and budgeting documentation

° Health & Safety Food Hygiene certificate
° First Aid certificate
° Knowledge of COSHH
