Cover Supervisor

Job Introduction

Thornden School are seeking an outstanding individual to join our successful support staff department as a Cover Supervisor. Thornden is an oversubscribed school serving Chandler’s Ford and the surrounding area with just over 1470 students on roll. We have an ambitious ethos based on high expectations for all. Salary: Grade D £26,918 - £29,616 FTE (Actual £14,997.96 - £16,501.20)

Hours: 24 hours per week (part hours will also be considered for the right candidate)

Contract: Permanent, Part-Time

Working weeks per year:   39   

Responsible to: Assistant Headteacher

Start date: Wednesday 3rd September 2025

Closing Date: Sunday 20th July 2025

Interview Date: Tuesday 22nd July 2025, morning only

About the role: 

To work with the cover manager to ensure that classes are covered and students are on task during this time.

To ensure that the school behaviour and rewards policy is adhered to and any actions recorded.

To support other colleagues, where required, particularly in regard to covering classes.

To be aware of and comply with policies and procedures including those relating to child protection, health & safety and security & confidentiality.

To undertake other duties as required by the Data Manager or SLT, commensurate with the grade of the post, if there are no cover requirements.

We are seeking an individual who has:

  • Understanding of safeguarding and training to be undertaken
  • Good communication skills and able to clarify and explain instructions clearly, both verbally and in writing
  • Strong literacy and numeracy skills
  • Competent use of ICT packages
  • Understanding of the principles of the teaching and learning process
  • Ability to work on your own initiative with a minimum of supervision
  • Ability to relate well to students, be an effective role model and motivate students to achieve success
  • Ability to raise standards of attainment and aspiration
  • Ability to maintain a professional manner at all times
  • Excellent interpersonal and organisational skills

For the avoidance of doubt, this is a supervisory post rather than a teaching post and is open to applicants without a teaching qualification.

About HISP Trust:
