Job Introduction
Burley Primary School is a small village school set in the idyllic surroundings of the New Forest. According to Ofsted (December 2024) our "Early years provision is exceptional" and so, we are looking for an equally amazing EYFS Learning Support Asistant to continue our "outstanding" Early Years provision.
Purpose of the role:
To work with teachers to support teaching and learning in a play based environment, providing general and specific assistance to pupils and staff under the direction, guidance and direct supervision of the EYFS teacher.
Key Responsibilities:
Supporting Learning:
Working under the direction of the teacher to support individual pupils or small groups in accessing learning activities.
Assisting with the preparation of learning resources and the classroom environment.
Monitoring pupil progress and providing feedback to the teacher.
Implementing planned learning activities and adapting them based on pupil responses.
Supporting pupils in developing independence and engaging in activities.
Promoting Wellbeing:
Creating a safe and supportive learning environment.
Providing pastoral care and support to pupils, including those with special educational needs (SEND).
Helping pupils to develop social and emotional skills.
Assisting with personal care needs, such as toileting and dressing.
Collaborating with Staff and Parents:
Working closely with the teacher and other staff members to support pupil learning and development.
Communicating effectively with parents and carers about pupil progress and needs.
Participating in planning and evaluation of learning activities.
Safeguarding Responsibilities
To strictly follow the schools policies on child protection and safeguarding.
Report any incidents via the online reporting system.
Report incidents immediately to the Designated Safeguarding Lead.
Other Duties:
May be required to supervise children during break times, lunchtime, or off-site activities.
May be involved in administrative tasks, such as record-keeping and resource management.

Experience of working or volunteering in an EYFS setting | Relevant EYFS qualification (level 3 EYE) |
Ability to develop strong relationships with children and their families | Good knowledge and understanding of the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum |
High expectations for children’s behaviour, wellbeing and achievement | Understanding of continuous provision and its role in early childhood education |
Strengths in English and maths to support early literacy and numeracy | Paediatric First Aid qualification |
Positive, resilient and enthusiastic attitude towards supporting children's learning | Experience supporting children with SEND and/or EAL |
Ability to work flexibly and as part of a team | Familiarity with observational assessment |
Commitment to safeguarding, equality, and inclusion | Knowledge of EYFS inspection frameworks |
Strong organizational skills are needed to manage resources, prepare activities, and maintain records. | Experience using phonics programmes - Little Wandle |
