Full-Time Finance Officer  - EHCC Grade E

Wellstead is a vibrant and inclusive primary school at the heart of our local community. We are looking to recruit a dedicated, hard working, team-orientated Finance Officer to join our busy and supportive admin office team.  

We are a warm and friendly school where everyone works hard to ensure that the children have the best possible opportunities.   We are committed to professional development and support each other to be the best that we can be.  Successful candidates will demonstrate a keen interest in developing their own skills,  as well as supporting other members of the team.  This role is a full-time position 37 hours a week for 42 weeks of the year.   The role is initially offered on a fixed term basis until August 2026, but there is scope for it to be extended beyond that. 

The Finance Officer will play a key role in managing the school’s financial operations, ensuring that resources are used effectively to support the school’s improvement priorities. You will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, preparing reports for governors, processing invoices and supporting the Headteacher in budget planning and financial compliance.

The salary offered is Grade E (£32,149 - £35,241) and is dependent on experience.

Job Specification

The successful candidate will:

  • Be responsible for managing the school budget, budget planning and reporting to Governors using provided systems

  • Manage the day-to-day finance operations and activities

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records through HCC systems

  • Be able to consistently and efficiently conduct and complete daily, weekly, monthly and annual financial processes in accordance with Hampshire County Council procedures

  • Process invoices, orders, and payments in a timely manner

  • Reconcile bank statements, purchasing cards and petty cash

  • Process payroll preparation and staff expense claims

  • Prepare financial reports for the Headteacher and Governors

  • Ensure all qualifying grants and funding are accessed

  • Be responsible for debt control 

  • Ensure compliance with school financial procedures and relevant regulations

  • Liaise with suppliers, contractors, and external auditors

  • Provide general administrative support to the office as needed

  • Engage with community users of our facilities and the associated billing

  • Engage with businesses and partner organisations to develop links and generate income streams.

  • Provide advice and guidance and direction to staff in following correct financial procedures

We are looking for someone who is:

  • Experienced in financial administration, ideally within an educational setting or is willing to learn 

  • Has experience of Hampshire County Council’s systems and administration processes, although full training will be given

  • Be highly proficient in the use of IT for finance administration

  • Be able to manage, prioritise and meet school and Hampshire County Council deadlines

  • Be keen to use initiative and thrive on a ‘can do’, positive approach

  • A strong communicator with a proactive and collaborative approach, confident in liaising with all colleagues, children, parents and outside agencies to further our caring ethos, even when under pressure

  • Able to maintain confidentiality and demonstrate high levels of integrity 

  • Aligned with our ethos and committed to modelling our core values in their work

  • Ambitious with a keen desire to progress their career

  • Demonstrates resilience and reflection 

  • Is flexible and can respond to the changing needs of the school and its pupils on a daily basis
