HLTA - Fixed term 1 year
Cherbourg Primary School is seeking to appoint a skilled, confident, flexible and well-organised Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to join our friendly and supportive team from September 2026. The position will be for a fixed period of one year in the first instance but with the possibility of this being extended.
The successful applicant will be expected to work across the school, although we are seeking a practitioner with particular strengths within KS2. This varied but rewarding role involves providing cover for PPA and leadership time, as well as covering staff absences. At times when the HLTA is not covering a class, they will provide small-group interventions and classroom support.
About the role
The successful candidate will:
work closely with class teachers to support teaching and learning
deliver whole-class lessons across a range of subjects
work with children from EYFS to Year 6, primarily in Years 3–6
mark children’s work and provide feedback
support one-to-one and small-group work
demonstrate excellent behaviour management skills
work effectively as part of a team, learning with and from colleagues
contribute positively to the wider life of the school
We are looking for someone who:
has excellent literacy and numeracy skills (GCSE English and Maths grade C or above)
holds an HLTA qualification or equivalent
has recent experience teaching across the primary age range
can confidently lead whole-class learning and support small groups
has experience working with a range of SEN needs
can plan and prepare lessons
has the skills to help pupils accelerate their learning
manages their time effectively
has high expectations for learning and behaviour
demonstrates inclusive practice
can build strong relationships with pupils
works effectively as part of a team
is passionate about teaching and learning and keen to continue developing professionally
