Job Introduction

The Headteacher is seeking to recruit a Lead Learning Support Assistant (SEMH) to join our dedicated and compassionate team at Cody Oaks. As a specialist provision, we have high aspirations for children and young people with a wide range of special educational needs and disabilities. As a Lead LSA (SEMH), you will play a key role in shaping this experience by guiding and supporting a team of SEMH LSAs, modelling excellent practice and ensuring high‑quality provision across the school. 

We are seeking an enthusiastic, skilled and reflective practitioner who can lead by example, build strong relationships and contribute to our inclusive ethos. You will work closely with teachers, senior leaders and external professionals to ensure students receive the right support at the right time, and that our provision continues to evolve in line with pupil need. 

Qualities and Skills Required 

GCSEs in English and Maths (or equivalent) 
Flexibility and resilience in responding to dynamic classroom and pastoral needs 
Strong interpersonal and communication skills to build trust and collaboration 
High emotional intelligence (EQ) and empathy when supporting students and colleagues 
Excellent timekeeping and attendance, demonstrating reliability and professionalism 
Ability to lead and motivate others, modelling calm, consistent and reflective practice 
Commitment to inclusive education and SEMH development 
Creative problem‑solving and initiative in adapting learning approaches 
Reflective practitioner who values evidence‑based improvement and teamwork 


Main Duties and Accountabilities 

Allocate SEMH LSAs to classes on a daily basis in response to staff absence and/or student need 
Provide support and training for SEMH LSAs 
Act as a liaison between the SEMH LSA team and Senior Leaders 
Lead aspects of the day‑to‑day operations of Samuel Cody Primary, ensuring smooth running of routines and systems that promote safety, regulation and readiness to learn 
Carry out intervention to support individual students’ development e.g. social skills, Lego Therapy, phonics 
Line manage allocated staff, providing clear expectations, coaching, and professional development to strengthen inclusive, trauma‑informed practice. 
Promote teamwork, communication and respect among students and staff, contributing to a positive, nurturing school culture. 
Additional responsibility can be discussed in line with career aspirations.
