Job Introduction

We are looking to appoint a fully qualified Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to join our team in September. We also welcome experienced Learning Support Assistants, who are able to confidently lead whole class teaching. We are looking for the right person to join the team - see below for how your skills as a music, computing, French or another kind of specialist or experience might be just what we need!

St Peter’s CE Junior School is a two-form entry Church of England junior school, close to the centre of Farnborough but on a beautiful, tree-lined site which we share with St Peter’s Church. For a small school, we are lucky to enjoy a range of varied facilities including a dedicated art room, lots of quiet group spaces, a pupil kitchen, and our beautiful library at the centre of the school. Not many state schools can say their library is the original entrance to a Grade-2 listed manor house with hundreds of years of history!

We are looking for a creative, passionate professional to join our friendly church school. We’d love to meet someone who will be an active member of our team as we continue to grow and develop together, striving to offer our children the best experience possible.

We strive to instill a love of learning and enable all children to learn for life.  We are looking for someone who shares this same passion and who upholds a love of learning – committed to meeting the needs of every child.

We can offer you:

  • A supportive church school community with a heartfelt commitment to ‘life in all fullness’
  • Spacious classrooms within a beautiful Grade 2 listed building
  • Beautiful grounds, great facilities and space to learn including plentiful group rooms and a children’s kitchen.
  • Well behaved, polite and lovely children who are enthusiastic and strive to do their best
  • A team of friendly, dedicated and hard-working staff
  • Excellent CPD opportunities and scope for future teacher training
  • The chance to really make a difference at a school committed to growing and nurturing the whole child.

The successful candidate will:

  • Be confident, creative and adaptable, able to lead group and whole class teaching
  • Have excellent communication skills, able to share and uphold clear expectations
  • Believe in a restorative and relational approach to behaviour management
  • Be nurturing, encouraging and friendly, able to support positive well-being across the school
  • Have a range of interests with the desire to enable ‘life in all its fullness’
  • Encourage, motivate and value every child
  • Believe in a broad and balanced curriculum
  • Have the aspiration to make a positive and successful contribution to our school wide family

The role will involve ad-hoc cover of classes, intervention support, and PPA cover.

We currently envisage the PPA cover element, across four afternoons, would involve around half an hour of French (pre-planned using the 'Kapow' scheme of work), and half an hour of ‘Skillsbuilder’ lessons in each class. (this is a pre-planned programme of life skills based on core areas e.g. listening , teamwork, problem-solving etc)

However, we would also welcome applications from candidates with skills or experience in another suitable area, for example in teaching music, or computing - we would be happy to discuss how PPA cover might look for the right candidate.

(Please note that PE is already covered by our teachers and an external coaching company, so this is not something we would be looking for at this time)

If you cannot commit to a full time role, but could provide the PPA cover element across four-five afternoons in a specialist area (see above) we would also welcome a discussion.

The role is for 30 hours/week, based on 6 hours per day, 5 days a week. The contract will initially be for a period of one year, but may be extended subject to the school's needs in subsequent years.

If you like the sound of this for your next career move, then we would love to hear from you. We encourage you to come and see us before applying if you can; please contact the school office via adminoffice@stpetersjun.co.uk or 01252 543320 to arrange a visit. You can also find out more on our website: www.stpeterscofejuniorschool.co.uk.

Please use the application form below to apply. This can be posted, handed to the office in-person, or emailed to recruitment@stpetersjun.co.uk

Please use the attached form rather than the online automatic submission.

The school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.

The final closing date for receipt of applications is 31st July at midday, with interviews to be confirmed. We reserve the right to close the recruitment process earlier if a suitable candidate is appointed and you may be contacted earlier, including before the end of the summer term, to arrange an interview.
