Job Introduction
As Head of History, you’ll lead with purpose and precision. You’ll inspire curiosity in all students, drive excellence at GCSE, and build a team culture rooted in our core values. We’re on a mission to achieve the best progress in Portsmouth within five years. History will be central to that journey—connecting pupils to the past, empowering them in the present, and preparing them for the future. For this role, you must be a History specialist with a love of your subject and an ability to share that passion. This may be your first leadership post, or you may be experienced, either way, we will support you to ensure that History is a very high performing subject when compared nationally. You will be somebody who can enthuse students and staff and is always ‘banging the drum’ for History and its importance in the curriculum. You will be a superb teacher with high expectations of what children can and, under your leadership, will achieve. You will be a good communicator, have a strong moral purpose and you’ll need to be fully committed to our cause: outstanding learning through a strong knowledge based curriculum supported by clear pedagogy, consistent routines and ultimately our students’ high aspirations.
