We are looking for an ambitious, enthusiastic and dedicated leader, who has high expectations and continuously strives for the very best outcomes. This an exciting opportunity to join The Hamble School. Our vision ‘We Care, We Aim High, We Learn and Achieve Together’ encapsulates the work we do every day. Our intake numbers are increasing – we currently have 1,090 students and are oversubscribed for September 2026. In March 2025 we were graded as ‘Good’ in all areas by Ofsted and we are continuing to ensure that we provide the very best education for all our students.
This position would suit an aspiring Middle Leader or an established Middle Leader looking for a new opportunity to drive forward a department and develop leadership skills. Whole school responsibilities will be available for the right candidate.
Our Mathematics Department is a high‑performing team made up of ten specialist teachers, supported by a dedicated HLTA and two Assistant Heads of Department. The team is fully staffed, collaborative, and committed to delivering exceptional experiences for our students. The department is well‑resourced, with specialist teaching spaces that enable high‑quality learning across all key stages.
Outcomes in Mathematics are consistently good and remain among some of the best in Hampshire. In 2025, 79% of students achieved grades 9–4, reflecting the department’s sustained commitment to excellence. However, we are always striving to increase outcomes, ensuring that every student is challenged and supported to achieve their full potential. Students study Edexcel Mathematics, Statistics, and Extended Mathematics and our broad curriculum is designed to stretch, challenge and inspire learners of all abilities.
We are seeking an ambitious, forward‑thinking Head of Mathematics who can continue to build on this strong foundation. The ideal candidate will bring a clear vision for curriculum development, a passion for leading high‑quality inclusive teaching and learning and the ability to inspire both staff and students. This is an excellent opportunity for someone dedicated to driving achievement and shaping the future success of a high‑achieving department.
In return, we can offer you:
- a positive and optimistic working environment focused on staff well-being, student welfare, progress and high standards of achievement and behaviour;

- the opportunity to apply for discounted childcare placements with Hamble Early Years Centre, based directly next to the school;
- free on-site parking and good local public transport links to the school (bus/ rail).
