About the School

Portchester Community School is a highly valued school at the heart of its community. Serving the families of Portchester and the surrounding area, the school is proud of its inclusive ethos and its commitment to creating successful, confident and responsible young people. 2024 Ofsted inspection findings recognised the school as good, with outstanding personal development, reflecting the strength of its pastoral provision and the breadth of opportunities available to pupils.

As our current Headteacher prepares to step down after a period of dedicated leadership, we are seeking an exceptional leader to build on the school's strong foundations and take it confidently into its next chapter. This is an exciting opportunity to lead a well-established community school with a clear vision, committed staff, supportive governors and pupils who are proud of their school.

Portchester Community School has a strong reputation for fostering a culture of belonging. The successful candidate will embrace these values while continuing to drive excellence in teaching and learning, raise aspirations and ensure every pupil achieves their potential. The school benefits from strong community links, excellent facilities and a commitment to serving learners of all ages through its wider community provision.

We are looking for a Headteacher who can inspire staff and pupils, champion inclusion and deliver a compelling vision that ensures the school continues to flourish.  This is a rare opportunity to lead a respected and ambitious school, shaping the next phase of its journey and ensuring that Portchester Community School continues to be the school of choice for its community.

You will bring to our school:

A compelling and ambitious vision that builds on the school's successes and secures continued excellence for all pupils.

Successful senior leadership, with experience of raising standards and improving outcomes.

A strong commitment to high-quality teaching and learning, ensuring all pupils experience an engaging and ambitious curriculum.

A deep understanding of inclusive education, enabling every pupil, including those with SEND and vulnerable learners, to thrive.

The ability to inspire, empower and develop staff, creating a culture of collaboration, professionalism and continuous improvement.

A commitment to maintaining high expectations for behaviour, attendance, achievement and personal development.

Strong strategic leadership skills, enabling the school to navigate future opportunities and challenges with confidence.

A passion for pupil wellbeing and personal development, reflecting the school's commitment to developing successful, confident and responsible citizens.

Excellent communication and relationship-building skills, fostering strong partnerships with families, governors, staff and the wider community.

A genuine commitment to community engagement, recognising the school's important role at the heart of Portchester.
