Headteacher

Job Introduction

St Martin’s is a happy and caring church school where children are at the heart of everything we do.  Our school currently has 105 pupils and is situated in the picturesque North Wessex Downs National Landscape close to the A34 and within easy reach of Newbury, Andover and Basingstoke.  St Martin’s was rated good by OFSTED in November 2023 and SIAMS in May 2023.

We are seeking to recruit a dynamic and inspirational headteacher to continue the community-focused, inclusive, Christian ethos of our school and to carefully manage the transition from a five class to a four class structure.  The current headteacher has successfully led the school for nearly eight years and has built a strong framework that we are looking to build on.

The new headteacher will be required to further develop the high standards set for learning, curriculum and attainment.  The prospective candidate must have a passion for learning, with the ability to foster a nurturing environment where our staff and children can thrive, ensuring strong outcomes for all children.

We are looking for someone who:

  • Is enthusiastic about working in a small rural Christian primary school and is driven to build on its success.
  • Will carefully manage the transition from a five class to a four class structure; and introduce the new curriculum to a two-year rolling cycle.
  • Has excellent leadership skills and energy with an ability to inspire and empower all the teachers, staff, children, parents and carers.
  • Will encourage and lead acts of collective worship in accordance with the school’s church foundation.
  • Will exercise strategic financial planning to maximise income (including increasing pupil numbers) whilst minimising expenditure to ensure the continuous financial viability of the school.
  • Has the drive to develop St Martin’s beyond the curriculum and successfully lead our children on their journey from reception through to year 6; so that they are prepared for their future and able to make a positive contribution to the world.
  • Is an empathic, effective and approachable communicator who can demonstrate the ability to build strong, positive and sustainable relationships with all stakeholders.

 We offer the successful candidate:

  • Continuing professional development.
  • A school where children are happy, polite and engaged in their own learning journey.
  • An experienced teaching staff who know how to excel but are also committed to self-improvement.
  • An engaged and supportive governing body.
  • An active PTA, supportive parents and a passionate local community who all desire the school to succeed.
  • The opportunity for an ambitious individual to develop their career at a nurturing, child centred village school.
