Contract Type:  Term Time Only
Hours: 8:30  - 4:00  Monday to Friday
Start Date: 1st September 2026
Salary: Grade D (dependent on experience)


The Home Support Worker plays a key role in helping our children and families feel supported, understood, and able to thrive. Working closely with our KS2 pupils (ages 7–11), the Home Support Worker builds positive, trusting relationships with children and their families, offering guidance, encouragement and practical support when it’s needed most. By working in partnership with home, school and external services, you will help remove barriers to learning and empower families to feel confident and connected.

Through your work, you will help our pupils develop respect for themselves and others, grow in resilience when facing challenges, and feel inspired to aspire to be their very best—supporting improvements in attendance, wellbeing, behaviour and overall engagement with school life.

Key Responsibilities

1. Family and Pupil Support

  • Work directly with pupils and families to identify and address barriers to learning.
  • Provide practical and emotional support to parents/carers to promote a positive home learning environment.
  • Conduct home visits where appropriate, in line with safeguarding policies.
  • Support pupils with social, emotional, and behavioural needs.

2. Attendance and Engagement

  • Monitor and support improvements in pupil attendance and punctuality.
  • Work with families to reduce persistent absence.
  • Implement early intervention strategies for pupils at risk of disengagement.

3. Safeguarding and Wellbeing

  • Promote and safeguard the welfare of all children.
  • Identify concerns and follow school safeguarding procedures.
  • Liaise with safeguarding leads regarding vulnerable pupils.

4. Multi-Agency Working

  • Act as a link between school and external agencies (e.g. social services, health professionals).
  • Attend and contribute to meetings such as Team Around the Child (TAC) or Early Help.
  • Support referrals to appropriate services.

5. School Collaboration

  • Work closely with teachers, SENCo, and pastoral staff to support pupil progress.
  • Contribute to individual support plans and interventions.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential records of work with families.

Person Specification

Essential:

  • Experience working with children and families in an educational, social care, or community setting.
  • Understanding of the needs of KS2 pupils.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to build trust and maintain professional boundaries.
  • Knowledge of safeguarding procedures and child protection.
  • Good organisational and record-keeping skills.

Desirable:

  • Relevant qualification (e.g. childcare, social work, counselling, or education).
  • Experience of working within a school setting.
  • Knowledge of attendance strategies and early intervention processes.
