The Mark Way School is a school for young people aged 11-16 with moderate learning difficulties (MLD). The school does not stand still; it continues to pursue aspirational outcomes for all its students and staff.
We want our students to achieve as well as they can to enable them to lead successful and fulfilling lives.
Students access a range of accreditation in all subjects, including English, Math and Science.
The successful candidate will have shared responsibility for a tutor group and will be required to support students with their pastoral needs and deliver a ‘Key Skills’ curriculum, which includes literacy and numeracy.
As a teacher at The Mark Way School, you will have high expectations, enthusiasm and a love of teaching and learning that will inspire and motivate our young people. Curriculum planning and our Learning Pathways are in place, and as a dynamic and ever-changing school community, these are reviewed and reflected upon. Our offer is personalised and flexible, but always includes high aspirations for our young people.
As a member of our school community, you will have empathy for young people with SEN and will always seek the best outcomes academically, socially, and emotionally, which is essential to supporting the day-to-day life challenges faced by students and their future prospects.
The Mark Way School is an exciting school to work, where we support and challenge our students to be the very best they can be academically and emotionally. Further, the sense of community and team is enabling and empowering, whilst guarding staff wellbeing. The Mark Way is an excellent school for staff personal development, and we do invest in this because the school seeks to support succession planning within the school and the wider education community.
A position at The Mark Way School will develop your expertise and experience in a range of Special Educational Needs and develop your ‘toolbox’ for meeting the individual needs of students with a wide range of special educational needs. This element of working does require you to problem solve, reflect and deliver modifications in your practice for the good of the students, but is met with significant rewards.
Visits to the school are welcome and encouraged. Please contact Lucinda Whittingham in the school office to arrange a tour of the school. If you would like an informal chat, please contact the school, where we are open to any questions you may have.
