We are looking for highly motivated, personable and experienced LSA to join our dedicated team with a specialism in Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs. The successful candidate will be working on a 1:1 basis with children, ensuring they are supported in their education within the classroom and through specific targeted interventions.

If you are a Learning Support Assistant looking to develop your knowledge and understanding of neurodiversity, the Thrive approach to learning and the Empowerment approach to behaviour management this role could be ideal for you.

Ideally, we are looking for someone with proven previous experience in Key Stage 1 or 2, particularly with children who have SEMH needs. Good numeracy and literacy skills are essential (GCSE Grade 4/C+ in English and Maths or equivalent) as well as a commitment to working as part of a team.

Skills required include:

  • Good numeracy and literacy skills
  • Ability to relate well to children and adults
  • Positive, sunny outlook
  • Work constructively as part of a team
  • Working alongside children with SEN/behavioural difficulties is desirable but not essential
  • Experience of working with neurodiverse students would be advantageous but not essential

Herne Junior School can offer you:

  • The opportunity to be part of a committed team in a good school
  • Excellent CPD and leadership opportunities
  • An able catchment of children who apply themselves
  • A warm and supportive team – staff, governors, parents and community

We are always keen for our learning support assistant positions to be filled with experienced members of staff, so current NVQ Level 3 or 4 Teaching Assistants or HLTAs are always warmly welcome to apply.

Tours of the school are encouraged and can be arranged through the school office by emailing admin@hernejunior.com or calling 01730 263746.

Please submit your completed application to Rebecca Loader, School Business Manager r.loader@hernejunior.com

Please note: To avoid disappointment, you are advised to submit your application as soon as possible as we reserve the right to close the vacancy early if a high volume of applications are received. This is to ensure that we can manage application levels whilst maintaining a positive candidate experience.

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. We will ensure that all our recruitment and selection practices reflect this commitment. All successful candidates will be subject to Disclosure and Barring Service checks along with other relevant employment checks.
