We are seeking a caring and enthusiastic Learning Support Assistant to join our supportive and dedicated team at St Columba. St Columba C of E Primary School is a thriving and ambitious school with a strong reputation in the local community and growing pupil numbers. Hours: Four afternoons 12.30 pm to 3.15 pm and one full day 8.30 – 15.15-day negotiable, 17.25 hours per week, term time only 39 weeks plus holiday entitlement.
Pay: Grade B-C depending on experience Actual Salary £ 9915 - £10494
Closing Date: 26th June 2026 12pm may close and recruit earlier if applications fulfil the requirements.
The successful candidate will be motivated, able to reflect on own practice, professional and committed to the children of St Columba. Knowledge and experience of working with children is desirable but full training will be given for the right candidate.
Qualities:
It is desirable, but not essential (as training can be provided), that the Learning Support Assistant will:
- Be a level 3 Early Years Practitioner
- Hold Paediatric First aid.
- Have experience of working with children, ideally in a school or childcare setting
- Be caring, patient and supportive, with a positive, relational approach to learning.
- Demonstrate good communication skills when working with pupils, staff and parents.
- Be able to work effectively as part of a team and follow direction when required.
- Show a willingness to develop skills through training and professional development.
- Have an understanding of safeguarding and the importance of confidentiality.
- Be reliable, organised and able to use initiative when appropriate.
Duties
- Support and encourage children’s learning and development under the guidance of the Class Teacher.
- Promote and reinforce positive behaviour in line with school expectations.
- Follow guidance and programmes provided by external agencies to support pupils’ individual needs.
- Encourage engagement in learning to help improve outcomes for children.
- Build positive, nurturing relationships with children to help overcome barriers to learning.
- Work with pupils during interventions or boosters, on a one-to-one basis and in small groups to deepen understanding and raise attainment.
- Deliver learning interventions under the guidance of the SENDCo and Class Teacher.
- Provide cover for a 30-minute lunch break duty.
- Maintain professionalism and confidentiality at all times.
- Carry out any other duties reasonably allocated within the remit of the role.
