Learning Support Assistant (with an interest in PE and Sports Coaching)
Orchard Junior School have a vacancy for a permanent Learning Support Assistant. The hours are negotiable and can be discussed at interview stage.
We are looking for an enthusiastic, organised, experienced and caring person to join our friendly team of staff. An interest in PE, sports coaching or physical activity, as well as any relevant coaching qualifications, would be highly desirable.
The role will mainly involve supporting groups of children in their learning under the direction of the class teacher, as well as providing general classroom assistance and pastoral support for pupils. The successful candidate will also work closely with our sports coach and play an active role in supporting the delivery of after‑school sports clubs. Some one‑to‑one pupil support may also form part of the role.
You should:
• Have empathy with pupils and be sympathetic to their needs
• Have excellent English and Maths skills
• Have well‑developed interpersonal skills and a sense of humour enabling effective relationships with a variety of different people
• Be a team worker
• Be able to use ICT effectively to support learning
• Demonstrate good communication skills and be able to clarify and explain instructions clearly
• Be professionally discrete and able to respect confidentiality on particular issues
• Have an enthusiasm for PE and promoting active, healthy lifestyles among pupils
In terms of qualifications and experience, you will ideally:
• Have a working knowledge of the national curriculum, particularly English and Maths requirements, and other relevant learning programmes/strategies
• Have experience of working with children
• Be trained, or be willing to train, to at least NVQ3 standard in Childcare
• Hold, or be working towards, relevant sports coaching qualifications (highly desirable)
• Have experience supporting or delivering sports activities, clubs or coaching sessions (desirable)
