Learning Support Assistant

Job Introduction

Andover CE Primary School are looking to appoint a caring, nurturing and motivated person, who wants to make a positive impact to our children. We are looking to recruit a LSA to work with children in Year R and 1 who have specified SEND. The successful candidate will be enthusiastic and energetic. They will have a passion for learning and a good understanding of how to support the development of the child as an independent and confident individual. We have a very strong inclusion team who you will work alongside. We offer a wide range of opportunities for professional development. We work collaboratively with a number of schools across Andover and its neighboring villages, creating many opportunities for professional development in a range of exciting contexts.

The right candidate needs to be able to:

  • Nurture, inspire, challenge and motivate children
  • Have a calm, positive and resilient disposition
  • Be reflective and have an understanding of the different ways that children express their needs
  • Have a working knowledge of the curriculum and the ability to break down activities into small step teaching
  • Provide modelling and scaffolding to support the child's interactions and learning whilst striving for the child’s independence
  • Actively encourage the child's developing social and emotional skills
  • Deliver tailored interventions drawn up in consultation with the SENDCo, class teacher or other professionals
  • Implement clear boundaries and routines
  • Provide close home/school liaisons
  • Be a team player with a professional attitude towards the development of the school and a strong work ethic.
  • Take appropriate responsibility for safeguarding and children’s welfare and be aware of confidential issues linked to home/child/teacher/school and keep confidences appropriately.

Hours of work 8.40am-3.10pm (Monday-Friday) term time only.
