Learning Support Assistant

Job Introduction

We are looking for a confident and caring person to join our team of committed learning support staff at Wickham Church of England Primary School. The role is likely to involve a combination of whole class, small group and 1:1 support, working in close partnership with the class teachers and our inclusion leader to promote learning for all children. This is a demanding but hugely rewarding role, which will involve building strong relationships with the children you are supporting. Although the contract is fixed-term, until the end of the academic year, there is a very strong possibility that it will become permanent in the future.

Working hours are 8.45am until 3.15pm, Monday to Friday, but we would also consider part-time for the right person (mornings or afternoons). There may also be hours available before and after school, working in our wraparound care, if additional hours are desired.

Whilst we are ideally looking for a candidate with prior experience as a learning support assistant or working directly with children, we would also consider applications from those who have an interest in and are seeking to develop within the role.

We are incredibly proud of our school community, which truly feels like one ‘big family’, and our pupils are well-behaved and eager to learn. Our shared school values of love, respect and courage underpin all areas of school life and our highly committed and enthusiastic staff work hard to ensure that all children achieve well and make good progress. These were amongst many strengths of the school identified in our 2022 Ofsted inspection.

We are located in the heart of the historic village of Wickham, only a few minutes’ drive from the town of Fareham and easily accessible from the cities of Portsmouth and Southampton. Our grounds are extensive and are surrounded by the beautiful countryside of the Meon Valley.

The key strengths of our school include:

A highly caring and child-centred ethos, rooted in our core Christian values

A very strong inclusive approach which ensures that all children make good progress

An ambitious and well-thought-out curriculum

A strong and supportive staff team who are willing to share expertise

Thoughtful and kind children who are incredibly passionate about their learning

A stunning environment including an all-weather pitch, outdoor classroom and our own ancient woodland

Plenty of opportunities for on-going professional development

We are looking for someone who has:

Experience of working with children in a school setting or similar

A belief that every child can achieve

Patience, flexibility and the ability to work on their own initiative

The ability to communicate with other team members

The ability to positively interact with children on the playground and in play

A sense of humour and lots of positivity

Competency in English and mathematics (GCSE grade C or equivalent)
