St Martin’s is a small school consisting of 5 classes located in the beautiful village of East End, only 5 miles from Newbury. St Martin’s is looking for an enthusiastic, highly motivated and empathetic Learning Support Assistant.  Initially this is a class LSA role to support the learning of individuals and groups of children in a Year R/1 class, under the direction of the class teacher.  A good understanding of the EYFS curriculum and phonics is essential.  Depending on the interests, skills and experience of the successful candidate, it may also include leading intervention groups, working alongside another LSA to lead PPA sessions and/or supporting children with additional needs on a 1:1 basis. 

The successful candidate will:

  • be passionate about working with children and want to make a difference,
  • have a good understanding of safeguarding and always put the needs of the children first,
  • have a good understanding of how children learn and use this to support individuals and groups of children in their learning,
  • truly believe in inclusion and that all children can succeed in school and be resilient, focused on finding solutions and have a ‘can do’ attitude,
  • promote positive behaviour strategies and manage challenging behaviour according to agreed procedures in a calm, positive and consistent manner,
  • be patient, cheerful and enthusiastic,
  • have excellent literacy, numeracy and communication skills,
  • understand the importance of confidentiality in a school and maintain high levels of confidentiality,
  • be able to administer first aid and meet the medical needs of the children,
  • be able to support the organisation and the administration of health and safety protocols within school,
  • support, maintain and nurture our caring Christian community and ethos.
