The Federation of Burley and Sopley Primary Schools consists of two small schools set in the idyllic surroundings of the New Forest National Park.
Burley Primary School has a wonderful opportunity for at least one Learning Support Assistant to join our committed, caring and enthusiastic team.
The role/s are offered on a permanent and/or fixed term basis. Part time hours will be considered for the right candidate/s.
Job Purpose and Objectives
Provide support to children, working with teachers to facilitate learning and development. Help students with diverse needs, including those with special educational needs (SEN), behavioral difficulties, or language barriers, to access the curriculum and participate fully in school life.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
Supporting Pupil Learning: LSAs assist students with their learning, providing tailored support to help them access the curriculum and achieve their learning goals.
Working with Teachers: LSAs collaborate closely with the class teacher to understand students' needs, implement strategies, and monitor progress.
Adapting Materials and Activities: They adapt learning materials and activities to meet the individual needs of students, including those with Special Educational Needs (SEN).
Promoting Positive Behavior: LSAs help to create a positive and inclusive learning environment, encouraging positive behavior and social interaction among students.
Fostering Independence: They work to develop students' independence and self-confidence, encouraging them to take responsibility for their learning and behavior.
Supporting Social and Emotional Development: LSAs provide social and emotional support to students, helping them to understand and manage their feelings and interactions.
Record Keeping and Communication: LSAs may keep records of student progress, communicate with parents and other professionals, and contribute to the planning and evaluation of learning activities.
Safeguarding: LSAs play a vital role in ensuring the safety and well-being of students, following school policies and procedures related to child protection
Person Specification
Essential Criteria
GCSEs in English and Maths at grade 4 or above (A-C)
Experience of working with young people, including those with a range of special educational needs and social, emotional and mental health difficulties
Capable of dealing with challenging situations
Ability to develop strong relationships with children and their families
High expectations for children’s behaviour, wellbeing and achievement
Positive, resilient, patient, caring and enthusiastic attitude towards supporting children's learning
Commitment to safeguarding, equality, and inclusion
Strong organizational skills are needed to manage resources, prepare activities, .
The ability to work effectively as part of a team is essential for providing a cohesive and supportive learning environment.
The ability to adapt to different situations and adjust support strategies as needed.
A patient and understanding approach is crucial for supporting young children with varying needs.
Desirable Criteria
Relevant childcare qualification (e.g Level 2 or 3 certificate in supporting teaching and learning in schools.
Experience of delivering interventions which make a difference.
The ability to champion children SEMH needs and be relentless in a pursuit of excellence for all
Understanding of alternative and therapeutic interventions for student progression
First aid qualification
