Job Introduction
The Federation of Burley and Sopley Primary Schools consists of two small schools set in the idyllic surroundings of the New Forest National Park. Burley Primary School has a wonderful opportunity to for a Learning Support Assistant to join our committed, caring and enthusiastic team. The role is offered on a fixed term basis, subject to specific pupil funding. Part time hours would be considered for the right candidate/s.
Job Purpose and Objectives
This position is subject to SEN funding for a key child, however the successful candidate will work as part of team, supporting all children through small group work, modelling through play as well as some individual support work. The role is initially in our Reception class, but there will be times that support may be required in other classes throughout the school. Therefore a willingness to work in all classes is essential for our school. The role also includes supporting the development and supervision of play during children's lunch hour.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
Supporting Pupil Learning:
Under the direction of the class teacher, provide tailored support to help pupils access the curriculum and achieve their learning goals.
Collaborate closely with the class teacher to understand students' needs, implement strategies, and monitor progress.
Adapt learning materials and activities to meet the individual needs of students, including those
with Special Educational Needs (SEN).
Promoting Positive Behavior, creating a positive and inclusive learning environment, encouraging positive behavior and social interaction among students.
Work to develop students' independence and self-confidence, encouraging them to take responsibility for their learning and behavior.
Person Specification
Essential Criteria:
Previous experience of working in schools is not essential, but a willingness to learn is.
GCSEs in English and Maths at grade 4 or above (A-C)
Capable of dealing with challenging situations
Ability to develop strong, professional relationships with children and their families
High expectations for children’s behaviour, wellbeing and achievement
Positive, resilient, patient, caring and enthusiastic attitude towards supporting children's learning
Commitment to safeguarding, equality, and inclusion.
Willingness to be flexible and responsive to the needs of the school.
The ability to work effectively as part of a team is essential for providing a cohesive and supportive learning environment.
The ability to adapt to different situations and adjust support strategies as needed.
A patient and understanding approach is crucial for supporting young children with varying needs.
Desirable Criteria
Relevant childcare qualification (e.g Level 2 or 3 certificate in supporting teaching and learning in schools.
Experience of working with young people, including those with a range of special educational needs and social, emotional and mental health difficulties
Experience of delivering interventions which make a difference.
The ability to champion children SEMH needs and be relentless in a pursuit of excellence for all
Experience/understanding of the early years practice.
