Lunchtime Supervisory Assistant

Job Introduction

Maple Ridge is a special primary school for children with learning difficulties, the majority of whom have autism. We are looking for a lunchtime supervisory assistant to join us to focus specifically on the learning needs of our pupils at lunchtimes. In this role you will promote pupils’ communication and develop their independence through practising valuable daily living skills relating to mealtimes. No experience is necessary and training will be given, however an understanding of the difficulties our children may have relating to interaction and sensory processing difficulties would be an advantage.

Support for pupils

  • supporting pupils to communicate their needs using alternative forms of communication, e.g. symbols or Makaton
  • promoting independence by assisting pupils with fine motor skills such as cutting food, opening packets, cleaning tables etc.
  • liaising with catering staff
  • practising social skills with the children and interacting with them to foster relationships and contribute to a positive atmosphere in the school dining hall and playground
  • supporting the behaviour of pupils whilst they eat their lunch and return to class
