Prospect School is a specialist provision in Havant, supporting boys aged 11–16 with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. We provide a broad and balanced curriculum that combines academic, functional and vocational learning, enabling every student to succeed in a structured, nurturing and aspirational environment.


The Role

We are seeking a dedicated and resilient Maths Teacher to join our team. This is a highly rewarding opportunity to deliver meaningful maths education to students with complex needs, supporting both their academic progress and personal development.

You will lead on maths across the school, delivering engaging and accessible lessons while also contributing to wider curriculum delivery where appropriate. You will adapt the curriculum to meet a wide range of needs, ensuring maths is both relevant and accessible for all students.

Classes are small, typically supported by a high staff-to-student ratio (usually 2:8), enabling you to build strong relationships and provide personalised support for every student.

You will also have the opportunity to contribute to the development of a whole-school numeracy strategy, supporting staff to embed numeracy across the curriculum and improving students’ confidence and fluency in everyday maths.

You will be:

  • A confident and reflective Maths teacher
  • Passionate about making maths accessible and relevant
  • Committed to supporting students with SEMH needs
  • Calm, consistent and resilient
  • Skilled in building positive relationships with students


Key Requirements

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent
  • Experience teaching Maths at Key Stages 3 and 4
  • Primary or secondary background considered
  • Experience of working with SEMH needs (desirable)
  • Strong understanding of adaptive teaching and behaviour support
  • Commitment to trauma-informed practice
  • Ability to work collaboratively with families and professionals

 

Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver engaging, differentiated maths lessons
  • Support students across Key Stages 3 and 4
  • Adapt the maths curriculum to meet a wide range of needs and starting points
  • Implement consistent, positive behaviour strategies
  • Track and support student progress in maths
  • Contribute to a safe, supportive and inclusive environment
  • Uphold safeguarding responsibilities at all times
