Job/Person Summary
St. Michael's CE Infant School is a popular 3-form entry school.
We are excited to be able to appoint a reading assistant to support us in delivering extra support for some of our children who find phonics more challenging. The role will involve leading phonics and reading groups of up to six children, supporting them to apply their phonic skills to decode new words, to read with expression and to discuss their understanding of the story. Full training will be provided.
As part of the role, we would also ask that you support some of our children with their speech and language development. This will be in addition to the reading support role.
You will work as part of a team, under the guidance of the reading leader and headteacher. Ideally you will have experience of working with young children and have taught children phonics and supported with speech and language. However, personality, aptitude and a passion for working with children are equally as important as qualifications.
The role will also include supervision of a class of pupils during their lunch time.
We can offer you
- delightful children who are keen to learn
- a welcoming, supportive and experienced team of teachers and support staff
- excellent professional development opportunities and training
If you
- are calm, positive and caring in your approach to children
- are enthusiastic about books and keen to develop your skills in supporting children to learn to read
- can model the correct use of speech for children
- have a good understanding of confidentiality and safeguarding
Application Procedure
