Job Introduction
We are excitedly looking for an experienced Learning Support Assistant, who has a specific interest in supporting pupils with their mental health, to join our growing Redwood team and become an integral part of our well established Social, Emotional and Mental Health Resource Provision. We currently support ten pupils across Year 7 to Year 9 to access a highly bespoke curriculum, interventions and enrichment, at a pace appropriate to their individual needs following their pathway through Education.
Redwood is a Specialist Resource Provision for pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs who are academically able, and present with low arousal and high levels of anxiety which in turn have become a barrier to accessing learning and social opportunities.
The aim of Redwood is that the pupils use it as a resource to gain the ability and the skills to succeed through secondary education, accessing mainstream lessons when they can, but also to gain the ability to understand their own emotions, build up their resilience and to develop the ability to regulate and learn strategies that they can take away with them to college and beyond.
Main duties include:
- Working with individuals and groups of pupils, assisting in ensuring pupils are kept on task and completing set tasks, either in the classroom on in the Redwood provision.
- Liaising effectively with teachers regarding the progress of the pupils whether they are in the classroom or in the Redwood provision.
- Supporting pupils with regulation, using the Zones of Regulation framework.
- Supporting pupils with problem solving and identifying next steps and solutions to their worries.
- Deliver SEN interventions such as 1:1 emotional support, sensory occupational therapy and social skills following the Alex Kelly Talk-about programme.
- Supporting with academic and non-academic progress tracking and Annual Reviews.
As well as the whole school CPD opportunities throughout the year, the staff in Redwood benefit from bespoke training catering to the needs of the pupils which include Autism, ADHD, Tourettes, OCD, Sensory Processing Disorder and Selective Mutism. Alongside this, the team receive regular coaching from an Educational Psychologist as well as specific training to support the ongoing needs of the pupils in Redwood.
If you are someone that likes to be flexible in their approach and to be able to have the time to build up a rapport with pupils and support them through their anxieties and difficulties, then please don’t hesitate to get in touch and we can arrange a time for you to come in and visit our Redwood provision.
