SEN Teaching Assistant (with additional afterschool club cover two days per week)
28.75 Hours per week
Working Pattern – 8.45am-12:00am Monday to Friday with and extra 30 mins lunch cover on Tuesday and Thursday
1pm – 3:30pm Monday, Wednesday and Fridays with afterschool club cover on Mondays and Wednesdays until 5:30pm
About the Role
We are seeking a dedicated, compassionate and enthusiastic SEN Learning Support Assistant to join our supportive team. This is a rewarding opportunity to make a genuine difference to the lives of children with Special Educational Needs (SEN), helping them to thrive academically, socially and emotionally within a nurturing learning environment.
Working closely with teachers and other professionals, you will provide targeted support and specialist interventions, enabling pupils to access learning, build confidence and achieve their full potential.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver tailored interventions and targeted support programmes for pupils with Special Educational Needs.
- Support individual pupils and small groups to engage fully in learning activities and achieve their learning objectives.
- Work collaboratively with teachers to implement lesson plans and adapt activities to meet individual needs.
- Encourage pupils to remain focused, motivated and actively involved in their learning.
- Provide constructive feedback to pupils to support their progress and independence.
- Contribute to planning, assessment and monitoring of pupil achievement alongside teaching staff.
- Take responsibility for a specialist area of support and provide guidance to colleagues where appropriate.
- Build positive relationships with pupils, promoting their wellbeing, confidence and personal development.
- Work in partnership with teachers and parents/carers to support pupil progress and celebrate achievements.
- Uphold safeguarding procedures and ensure the welfare of all children is always prioritised.
- Maintain awareness of school policies, national guidance and statutory requirements, applying these effectively in your role.
- Participate in breaktime and lunchtime supervision as part of the wider school team.
About You
We are looking for someone who is passionate about supporting children and committed to inclusive education. The successful candidate will have:
- Experience of working with children with Special Educational Needs.
- Strong literacy and numeracy skills, including GCSE English and Maths at Grade C/4 or above (or equivalent).
- Confidence in using ICT to support teaching and learning.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain instructions clearly and effectively.
- A collaborative approach and the ability to work successfully as part of a team.
- A patient, caring and positive attitude, with the flexibility to respond to pupils' individual needs.
- High expectations for pupil achievement, behaviour and personal development.
- A sound understanding of confidentiality and professional boundaries.
- Knowledge of safeguarding practices and a commitment to promoting the welfare of children at all times.
- A proactive, resilient and enthusiastic approach to supporting learning and development.
