SENDCO & SEND Specialist Teacher

Job Introduction

We are seeking a dedicated and passionate SENDCo/SEND Specialist Teacher to join our team and lead our inclusive provision. You will be part of an exciting opportunity to mould Tanners Brook’s provision for children with high needs, playing a vital role in embedding inclusive practice across the school. This will be a key role within the school, supporting children with a range of complex and multiple needs including autism, SEMH, sensory processing and communication difficulties.

This is a unique opportunity to combine strategic leadership with hands-on specialist teaching, ensuring that every child with SEND achieves their full potential. This role blends whole-school leadership of SEND with direct work in our alternative provision, offering the opportunity to make a tangible difference to pupils, staff and families every day.

What You’ll Do

As our SENDCo/SEND Specialist Teacher, you will:

  • Lead the strategic development of SEND across the school with responsibility for the strategic development and overseeing the day-to-day operation of the special educational needs (SEN) policy and provision
  • Secure effective teaching, successful learning and promote high levels of achievement and self-esteem for all pupils irrespective of background, ethnicity, gender or disability
  • Ensure high-quality, inclusive provision for all pupils with SEND
  • Coordinate and monitor SEND provision, including EHCP processes and maintaining an accurate SEND register and provision map
  • Deliver and model excellent specialist teaching within alternative pathways
  • Coach and support staff to improve inclusive classroom practice
  • Track pupil progress and ensure strong outcomes for all learners
  • Work closely with families, external agencies and the wider school community
  • Provide professional guidance to colleagues and lead training
  • Contribute to school self-evaluation and whole-school improvement, particularly with respect to provision for pupils with SEN or a disability

About You

We are looking for someone who:

  • Is a qualified, experienced teacher with a strong track record of inclusive practice
  • Holds the National Professional Qualification (NPQ) for SENDCOs or equivalent (ie NASENCo)
  • Has significant experience working with pupils with a range of SEND, including complex needs
  • Has a deep understanding of autism, SEMH, sensory processing and communication needs
  • Is passionate about inclusion and achieving the best outcomes for every child
  • Has the ability to lead, inspire and develop others with a track record of coaching/mentoring and line managing staff
  • Is highly organised, reflective and committed to continuous improvement
  • Builds strong relationships with pupils, families and colleagues and external agencies
