Job/Person Summary
We are seeking to appoint a committed and experienced teacher to co-ordinate Special Educational Needs provision across the school. Applicants should hold (or be willing to complete) the National SENCO Award. The post is currently for four days per week and the days can be flexible. We are a fully inclusive school and we work hard to ensure that each child is respected as a unique individual, children’s needs are identified early and that a graduated approach is used to meet these. The SENDCO will work as part of the school's Senior Leadership and Inclusion Team alongside the Headteacher, Deputy Headteacher, Family Support Worker, Behaviour Support, ELSA and Attendance Officer.
The successful candidate will:
- Possess excellent interpersonal skills in order to communicate effectively with children, staff, parents and external agencies;
- Be flexible, adaptable and resilient, able to organise workload efficiently and competently yet still willing to contribute to the wider life of the school;
- Work as part of the Senior Leadership Inclusion Team;
- Liaise with and provide appropriate professional development for Class Teachers and Learning Support Assistants;
- Administer screening tests and identify appropriate interventions and monitor the impact of such interventions;
- Understand the process of Education Healthcare Plans and have up to date knowledge of the recent SEN code of practice (2015); manage and maintain the annual cycle of EHCPs
- Be passionate supporting others in ensuring that children with SEN are able to reach their learning potential;
- Provide up to date SEN information to senior leaders, governors, external agencies and OFSTED as and when required, including termly SEN report to Governors;
- Liaise with the SEN Governor to share information including Policy and SEN Report.
