School Caretaker

Job Introduction

We are looking for a reliable, enthusiastic person who has a range of good practical skills, to join our school to keep our site safe, clean and in good repair. The successful candidate will be pro-active and take pride in their work and our school. This role is suited to a person who enjoys DIY alongside active, outdoor work. The successful applicant will also need to be organised, flexible and willing to contribute to the life of the school. Basic literacy, numeracy and computing skills are essential and a sense of humour helps! This is a part time role of 20 hours per week, ideally from 7.00am to 10.00am, 5.00pm to 6.00pm Monday to Friday.

The successful applicant will be required to:

  • Manage the school site and buildings.
  • Take responsibility for locking/unlocking daily and securing the site. Including out of hours and emergency call outs.
  • Arrange and liaise with contractors on site
  • Undertake a range of school based repairs, maintenance and decorating, carpet cleaning and gardening.
  • Complete regular health and safety checks and keep all records up to date
  • Manage stock ordering and cleaning supplies
  • Work in a flexible manner for the needs of the children and the school
  • Take pride in helping to maintain the highest standards of cleanliness and health and safety at all times
  • Be a positive and professional face of our school community
  • Understand and adher to the school’s policies and procedures in relation to child protection and safeguarding. 

The successful applicant will:

  • Possess practical maintenance skills and the ability to perform minor repairs.
  • Be organised, self-motivated, and capable of working independently.
  • Have a high degree of personal pride in their work.
  • Have excellent communication skills and the ability to build strong relationships with staff, contractors, and the wider community.
  • Be flexible and willing to adapt to the dynamic needs of a busy school environment.

During school holidays, working hours can be altered, by agreement with the Headteacher, to suit completion of periodic cleaning and maintenance tasks/projects.
