Job Introduction

SENIOR LEARNING COACH

Full time (31.25 hours) or minimum 4 days a week

8:15am to 3pm daily, term time plus one week

GRADE D: £27,779 - £30,564 FTE / £20,584 - £22,648 actual salary based on full time hours

To start January 2026

A rare opportunity has arisen for a Senior Learning Coach to lead a small team of Learning Coaches to ensure students within your assigned year group receive the highest quality, personalised interventions.

Whilst primarily classroom based, the role allows flexibility within your day to work with the students that need the intervention at that time. In addition, you will prepare and update timetables in conjunction with the Learning Support Manager; liaise with parents and external partners as appropriate; and attend year team and EHCP meetings as appropriate.

Each Senior Learning Coach has an area of responsibility around the outcomes in an EHCP that include Cognition and Learning / Communication and Interaction / Sensory and Physical / SEMH / Access Arrangements so you will become an expert in a particular area. Training and support will be provided as needed.

We’d like you to have recent experience of working with and supporting secondary age students with a range of needs and be able to work flexibly in response to changing curriculum needs and the needs of individual students. With a positive ‘can-do’ attitude and an enthusiastic personality, you will be able to communicate effectively at all levels and demonstrate a high level of computer literacy. Experience of leading and developing others would be preferred.

We offer a welcoming, friendly and supportive working environment and high priority is given to the wellbeing of our staff and students.

In addition, we offer:

  • A generous pension scheme for support staff
  • Access to a Cycle to Work scheme
  • An active Staff Wellbeing Committee with numerous enrichment activities on offer
  • On-site free parking
  • A wellbeing day per academic year (prorated for part timers)
  • Access to an Employee Assistance Programme

Robert May’s School, which dates from 1694, is a high attaining and oversubscribed 11-16 Academy school with a distinctive ethos based on the charitable principles of our founder. We would welcome the opportunity for an informal discussion or visit.

An online search will be conducted for all shortlisted candidates to identify any past or current incidents or issues that might affect your suitability to work with children and undertake this role. This is in line with guidance in Keeping Children Safe in Education.

Interviews will take place as soon as possible. Please note that the school reserves the right to interview on receipt of applications, and to appoint prior to the deadline, so early application is recommended.

Safer Recruitment

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. We will ensure that all our recruitment and selection practices reflect this commitment. All successful candidates will be subject to Disclosure and Barring Service checks along with other relevant employment checks.
