We are seeking to appoint a well-qualified, enthusiastic practitioner to take on the role of Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCO).  The successful candidate will be responsible for leading the team of Learning Support Assistants, monitoring the progress of SEN students, leading intervention and ensuring effective use is made of the delegated budget. The school will look to support high quality candidates in achieving the SENCO qualification if they do not already have it.

The Clere School is an 11-16 comprehensive school with an able, articulate and friendly cohort of students and a dedicated body of staff.  We are a uniquely small but growing secondary school, with record numbers in Year 7 and the growth looks to continue next year with the highest number of students choosing our school for over twelve years.  Our school provides a nurturing but achievement focused community for our students.

  • understand the statutory requirements and provision needed to support students with special educational needs
  • have excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively lead a large team of professional support staff and LSAs
  • be positive and enthusiastic
  • be forensic with whole school and individual student data to inform best practice
  • be a reflective practitioner who is dedicated to continuous improvement
  • be passionate about supporting young people with special educational needs and able to inspire and motivate young people to achieve ambitious goals
  • have fantastic subject knowledge and up to date pedological and curriculum strategies  
  • be forward-thinking, adaptable, open and responsive to feedback and up to date with the latest thinking about learning and teaching
  • be calm and assertive in managing behaviour
  • support all students to access the wider curriculum
  • have the highest expectations of themselves and the behaviour and achievement of students
