Teacher of Physical Education

Job Introduction

Miltoncross is an academy at the heart of its community that has very high aspirations for all of its staff and students.  We operate by the core values of Work Hard. Be Kind. No Excuses in order to foster a learning community where everybody values each other and everybody values the power of learning.

We offer a supportive and collegiate working environment where we all have the same goal - outstanding learning for children.  We are now two years into building a fresh, optimistic and sustainable culture where staff and students are always fulfilled because they know that they are doing their best work for the right reasons.

Our systems and structures are designed to liberate staff and students, freeing us all up from the challenges of uncertainty and relentless workload which in turn enables creativity, excitement and essentially, it makes coming to school enjoyable for all! To understand this better, do ask to read our Blueprint for Brilliance which outlines everything we do, why and how. This could really help you make an informed decision about whether this is your next career move or not.  We think it should be!

Staff and students enjoy their days in excellent modern buildings with superb facilities.  We are located on the West of Portsmouth and access is easy from the M27 or A27. Many staff commute easily from Southampton, Hampshire, Isle of Wight and West Sussex either by car or by public transport.

We have an exciting opportunity for a Teacher of Physical Education to join us at Miltoncross Academy, on a one-year contract (up until Easter 2026) to cover maternity leave. Our school works to transform the lives of the children and the community we serve.

For this role, you must be a PE specialist with a real passion and love of your subject and, importantly, an ability to share that passion with children.  You may be an experienced Teacher or an ECT to join our supportive, friendly and skilful team.  We are looking for somebody who is either already a proven excellent practitioner or who is committed, with support and hard work, to become truly excellent.

You will be somebody who can enthuse students and staff and is always striving to ensure that PE is the best subject in the academy.  You will have high expectations of what children can and will achieve. You will be a good communicator; have a strong moral purpose and you’ll need to be fully committed to our cause of outstanding learning through outstanding experiences in both lessons and throughout extra-curricular activities.  Our sport offer to students after school is strong and we are looking for a teacher to help build this further and make our extra-curricular sporting clubs a ‘must attend’ for our students.

At Miltoncross, we are on an exciting journey to become the very best.  We have high expectations of ourselves and our students. We provide a strong well-rounded education that has attainment at its heart.  We take a warm, compassionate approach, with strong consistent systems that serve our young people well, and lead to good behaviour in classrooms.

We are firmly committed to ensuring that staff workload is manageable as we believe that teachers, and leaders, should spend their precious time on those activities that are proven to add value to children’s learning.  To achieve this, we use a sensible and effective marking strategy, centralised assessments, resources and knowledge organisers.  We also operate with a very open mind for any staff to be able to share how we might do things more effectively and efficiently.

Miltoncross is a cheerful place to work where everybody pulls in the same direction and works hard to ensure that we give our students the excellent service that they deserve.  If you wish to discuss the role or come for a look round, please contact our Head of PE, Niall Bryant, at niall.bryant@miltoncross-tkat.org who will arrange a tour of the school and answer any questions that you might have.
