We are a 3-form entry Infant school with a welcoming staff and Governing Body team. It has ambition at its core for all the children and a strong approach to developing the whole child. Hamwic Education Trust (HET) is a large, fast-paced Trust with currently 35 academies across the South Coast. Linked to 6 community-based partnerships, there are 32 primary academies, 2 secondary and 1 hospital school.

WE ARE SEEKING A PROFESSIONAL INDIVIDUAL WHO: 

  • has a good understanding of how children learn
  • has had experience of working with children in a classroom environment and/or supporting children with additional needs to make good progress
  • has high expectations of achievement and behaviour for all children
  • having some working knowledge of different communication tools such as Matakon, Communication boards or PECs
  • has good literacy and numeracy skills (GCSE Math and English Grade C or equivalent)
  • is caring, patient and has good communication skills
  • is self-reflective, has a willingness to learn and demonstrates initiative
  • is a team player, able to work closely with teachers and other adults within our school community to ensure the best outcomes for our pupils

Experience of working in an infant or primary setting is preferred but we will support you with full training.  Professional development and career opportunities will be available for the right candidate within the school and the wider Hamwic Education Trust.

 This role involves:

  • supporting the teacher by working with individuals or groups of children to support their learning and development
  • demonstrating a good understanding of safeguarding practices and confidentiality
  • establishing supportive, caring and secure relationships with the child/ children, promoting respect, self-esteem and a positive, inclusive whole school ethos
  • contributing to evaluation, review and planning discussions with the teacher, SENCo and other members of the support team
  • offering a fair and consistent approach to managing behaviour and individual needs in line with school policies and procedures
  • helping, supporting and motivating the children, clarifying instructions, encouraging independent learning and behaviour and enabling learning targets and outcomes to be achieved 
  • delivering interventions under the direction of the class teacher 
  • liaising with outside agencies as appropriate with the support of the SENCo
